Soccer
requires the maximum development of complex abilities including intellectual,
physical, psychological and motor skills qualities. Extreme agility is necessary
for the success of all actions that the players must perform on the field
because they are required to reach different parts of the field for the shortest
period of time possible. Thereby it is necessary to perform movements of high
coordination while effectively controlling the ball or interacting with the
other players. This is agility, and it is a poorly studied subject in Sports
Physiology and Sports Psychology, but all data points to its close relationship
with speed. In this case we are not talking about linear speed, but about
overall speed in every direction. Developing agility is a key factor in the
conditioning training of soccer players.
Workouts can be most successful
when the coach creates situations for actions that require a higher speed than
the speed in a game. Is this possible at all?
Angel Spassov and Tony Capasso have
created a unique system for developing agility using the elastic qualities of
rubber bands. Athletes of all levels, ages and sex can use the system.
The first tape is: Physiology
Adjustment and Plyoagility Drills
This video clearly demonstrates all
of the exercises necessary to prepare the connective tissues (joints, muscles,
tendons) to perform the highest levels of the program. The Plyoagility drills
demonstrate how to develop your strength and the ability to apply that strength
in the most effective manner so that you can increase your speed and agility to
the highest level.
Tape two is: Soccer
Specific Speed and Agility, for Goalkeepers
Overspeed diving is the key
to improving any goalkeeper’s ability to cover ground in the goal. Footwork
and explosiveness are developed and your goalkeepers will be amazed at their
ability to reach balls that they never before thought possible!
Using this system players
can expect an improvement in their 40 yd shuttle time of between .65 - 1.00
seconds.
